2019 Open Show Critiques
Morning Show - Judge: Ashley Halliday (Aarminias/Brochinbelle)
I would like to thank the National Whippet Club for inviting me to judge their show and to all the exhibitors for their entries, especially given the testing weather conditions. It was a great privilege to judge this show and a breed so close to my heart. The venue was perfect and the show was run super efficiently. Thank you to my wonderful stewards who kept my ring running like clockwork. I had a few difficult decisions to make and some top-quality dogs to go over.

Afternoon Show - Judge: Marcia Dillon (Runforest)
Whenever I’m asked to judge I take it as a great honour I was therefore thrilled will my entry of 102 dogs. The weather was testing and many exhibitors were snowed in and rightly so stayed home enjoying snow dogs rather than show dogs. However when I arrived the hall it was cosy and welcoming and to my delight full of whippets!!
I’d like to thank the NWA committee and my super efficient stewards Tony and Donna for a wonderful day I’ll always remember.
I judged as I saw the dogs on the day, a few caught my eye as soon as they entered the ring in a few classes the dogs could swap places on another day.
MPD 5:5
1. Winstone, Lolani moonshine over Monelli
I have to be honest and say when I looked up this 6 month olds breeding I raised my eyebrows as I had no idea, both parents I admire and know well. This baby won his class and best pup in show for a few reasons. I loved his type, he was foot perfect for one so young both coming and going . He held his shape in profile. He had reach and drive and moved with purpose for his age. Beautiful head , correct eye shape, fine ears from his head he just flowed. Good spring of Pastern and balanced throughout. I’m aware he’s a long way to go but has exactly what I’d want at 6 month. What he does have is ‘ look at me’ and I will watch his development with interest. Well done
2. Wallace, Collooney playing away at Courtbirth - This pale fawn was completely different to 1, shown in beautiful condition and oozed quality as I’d expect for this famous kennel. His movement was difficult to fully assess today as he played up for his handler. However I saw enough to see he was sound. He covered ground on the stack and on the move. Lovely breed type. Masculine head , long neck into smooth shoulders. Correct topline and a strong rear. Another one to watch.

Very familiar with this striking brindle boy.
Judged him before and awarded BPIS.
He’s matured as I’d hoped and is in his peak. He has refined and dropped into his frame. He covers ground and is sound as can be (dare I say like his sire!!) he was a different type to anything else I’d seen today. Shown In tip top condition. I love his whole body shape and strong rear. He is strong up front but in my opinion he’s a super dog. One I wish was mine for sure. This is possibly my last open show appointment and I don’t ever say it - but I’m proud of his owners and this dog well done. BD

Dilute fawn
Both these bitches were spot on for size and I could change their places on another day.
Different types both extremely feminine, curvy and smooth to go over. I preferred head of 2 but rear angulation of 1
Both moved well with a low reach keeping their out line.

1 - Thomas- Aarminias princess of China at Bowdonia
Attractive black brindle heavy white trim.
I like the whole shape and proportions of this girl. Very sound and true. She can move for sure. Good infill nice return of upper arm, super toned body . Very pleasing topline. I liked everything about her and appreciated her more when I got my hands on her. I feel her colour can make her appear stronger through than she is and her handler needs to have confidence in what she has on the end of the lead. Shes a smart bitch. Good work ladies . BB RBIS

1- Doherty - Creme Anglasise la colle noire
Easy class win for this ultra feminine bitch.
I couldn’t take my eyes off her, she is of correct size although may appear small she certainly draws you in. Stunning head strong jaw. Fine ears. Fit and hard. Slightly more angulation than my other class winners but loved her shape as she was balanced and covered ground. When choosing my BB she just lost her top line on the stack. In my top 3.
I look forward to seeing her again.

I’m going to critique these girls together as there was little in them both. Both great for size. Feminine and lovely curves. Both oozed whippet breed type. Shown in lovely condition and pleasing to go over . 2 had stronger angulation to rear than 1. 1 won on profile movement today.

Black bitch shown in fit hard condition.
I liked her curves and flowing lines
Good feet
I’d like to thank the NWA committee and my super efficient stewards Tony and Donna for a wonderful day I’ll always remember.
I judged as I saw the dogs on the day, a few caught my eye as soon as they entered the ring in a few classes the dogs could swap places on another day.

1- Courtney - Courbirch force of nature JW
Very familiar with this striking brindle boy.
Judged him before and awarded BPIS.
He’s matured as I’d hoped and is in his peak. He has refined and dropped into his frame. He covers ground and is sound as can be (dare I say like his sire!!) he was a different type to anything else I’d seen today. Shown In tip top condition. I love his whole body shape and strong rear. He is strong up front but in my opinion he’s a super dog. One I wish was mine for sure. This is possibly my last open show appointment and I don’t ever say it - but I’m proud of his owners and this dog well done. BD
