BITCHES - Claire J Rishworth
A most enjoyable day spent judging bitches at this well run and popular Breed Club Championship Show, ably assisted by my two excellent stewards.
Quality in a couple of classes varied and it was difficult to judge to a type. There were several seriously good bitches that just seemed out of sorts today and gave an untypical performance in classes that offered stiff competition. I was surprised to find a couple of coats thick and unclean. A few dogs lacked muscle tone which is a concern as this is a running breed by nature. Two or three were shown either having just come out of or just about to come into their season and I felt hormones affected performance.
However, there were dozens of bitches presented beautifully, with excellent muscle tone and fine coats. Teeth were predominantly sparkling and nails neat. One thing I did find difficult at times was to actually get to go over an exhibit’s front and head, with handlers baiting their charges at the wrong time. I would try to encourage giving a reward when the judge has moved away to the rear in order to facilitate ease of assessing.
The quality of the exhibits in some classes was breathtaking and I really had to “nit pick” in order to finalise my placings. It is so how the dog goes on the day and I truly appreciated the dilemma of only having one big green card to award, as today, I could have given out several that merited such an award and do so encourage the owners of these super girls to just persevere, their time will come I am sure. We all know it is tough in this numerically high breed in both sexes, as competition is fierce with so many high quality animals, but it does make winning very worthy. I was very pleasantly surprised to be given the chance of going over now more mature bitches that I have judged before and was not disappointed in any. A superb final line up.
Bitches
Minor Puppy Bitch 15(1)
A class of some lovely babies, all at very different stages of development. A lack of confidence in themselves and with the setting affected some and hence were a little unsettled today. A few handlers I felt just needed more time to get used to how to show their new pups to their best advantage as they tended to over handle.
1.Marston-Pollock and Bartusch. Falconcrag Cover Girl. Brindle. Appealed immediately with her wonderful breed type. Lovely lean head, elegant neck and with good front angulation. Deep brisket and curvy underline with correct topline. Moved out freely. Not completely at ease, but settled well to win this quality class.A very promising prospect.
2 Green & Place .Collooney Queen of Dragons with Brochinbelle. Parti, out of a different mould, quality throughout, very mature for age. Super for size and of lovely length, with arch over loin. Scored in fabulous head and with the deepest of pigmentation. Well boned and standing on arched feet. Carried herself with confidence and moved out accurately. Another top class puppy.
3.Wilton -Clarke. Shalfleet Hello Sugar
Puppy Bitch 17(3) A great class of some super pups with some top quality pups in evidence.
1.Julian. Blondessa Be Happy. This pup is a stunner, golden fawn with white trim. Fabulous head with deep pigmentation, ears neat and set well. Perfect for size. Lovely shoulder and correct angulation both fore and aft. Possibly a smidgen of extra length of loin required if I was pushed, but early days. Fine coat with good muscle tone. Correct spring of pastern and standing on near perfect feet. An easy, free moving gait, carrying her tail in a delicate curve as asked for in the Standard. Well balanced and confident. Thrilled to see her go on to BPIS with the agreement of my co judge.
2.Short. Collooney Tartan Tease. Another lovely pup, brindle with white trim. Very mature and ready to move on from the class. Such a well made bitch, from nose to tail. Balanced and curvy and correct in all departments. Deep in brisket with correct top line which she held on the move. Excellent spring of rib. Superb mover, a joy to watch, so easy and free and light on her feet. A prospect for top honours in the future.
3.Whitehead, Smith & Mixides. Winter is Coming to Citycroft
Junior Bitch 10(3)
1.McConkey. Barmoll Bag O’Tricks. Brindle. Very elegant throughout and ultra feminine. Lean head, with neat rose ears. Long neck running into correct shoulders. Spring of pasterns sufficient and well boned. Lovely for overall length and balanced from all angles. Super for size. Would have liked to see her more at ease, with the sun on her back perhaps. Moved out freely.
2.Rees Kierpark Pretty Young Thing. Red fawn, with a beautiful head. Another very striking and correct bitch, full of quality. Maturing into a fine example of the breed. Very well made and constructed. Lovely for top line and good overall shape. Fine coat and skin presented in excellent condition. Moved out soundly.
3. Whyte. Marvidara Maid Of Honour
Yearling Bitch 11(1)
1.Place. Shiny Sensations Smooth Foxy Lady At Aarminias. The more I saw of this bitch the more she appealed. Light brindle with white trim. Very elegant and oozing quality. Lovely for overall breed type and certainly well constructed throughout. Balanced from all angles, with fine coat and in superb condition. Beautiful underline complimented by correct top line. Covered the ground with a long, low stride, sound and free moving. Handled to give of her best, a bitch empowered with true ring presence. RBCC
2.Homes & Fisher-Homes. Citycroft My Fair Lady of Jasarat. Red fawn with black mask, absolutely spot on for size. Superb top line, which she held on the move. Lovely headed, with good length of neck and lay of shoulder. Balanced with no exaggeration. Top quality throughout. Excellent hind angulation with well developed second thigh. Moved freely.
3.Howgate Hull. Palmik Wish Me Luck JW
Novice 7
1.Scott Bisset. Squirrelwood Jentle Jorgia Very typical of this kennel, a classic bitch, solid fawn. Beautiful head, neck and shoulders. Good for size and well balanced. Correct spring of pastern and quality of bone. Decent length of loin and deep of brisket. Shown in rock hard condition, wonderful musculature, a sculptor’s delight. Very sound. Without a doubt, fit for function. Clinched the class with the added advantage of maturity.
2.Boughton-White Ipanema Girl On Fire. Red fawn with dark mask. Glad to see this pup far more settled and at ease in this later class. A truly elegant bitch in the making. Very attractive head with neat, fine ears. Long neck and good lay of shoulders. Excellent for length with good brisket depth and length of loin. Going through that leggy stage and maturity needed before the final picture is reached. Moved out steadily and with greater fluidity.
3 Little. Danluke Lady Foxtrot At Zenobia
Undergraduate Bitch 7
1.Dillon & Hardcastle. Collooney Nickers In A Twist. Light brindle, with most attractive head and overall totally feminine and elegant. Well constructed throughout, she is of good length and balanced. Angulation very pleasing, both front and rear quarters. Once settled gave a very good, honest performance. She carried her top line well on the move and covered the ground effortlessly. I was particularly please with how well she looked in the line up.
2.Whitehead, Smith & Mixides Citycroft Bellini .Beautifully headed bitch with superb pigmentation. Very correct in so many aspects and smaller cast than one. Ultra feminine and standing over good ground. Lovely curvy underline, but she tended to flatten her top line on the move, especially when asked to move out at a faster pace. Slightly longer in second thigh than ideal, but still very pleasing overall.
3.Whyte. Marvidara Maid of Honour
Special Beginners Bitch 7(1) Rather a mixture of breed types and I am sure on other days placings may change.
1. Wignall. Starswift Siouxsie Sioux. Very attractive fawn with a lovely, breed typical headpiece. Feminine and curvy with both a good top and underline. Decent for bone and well arched feet, although a tad long in pastern. Just felt that this pretty bitch could do with shedding a few ounces to emphasise her excellent body shape. Moved out well.
2. Prowse. Supeta’s Ice Ice Baby Of Freehamlet. Brindle. Taller and finer than one. Again feminine and certainly elegant. Attractive in head and lovely length of neck. Good lay of shoulder and overall body shape. Curvy but probably needs more time to body up and drop in brisket. Little on the leg at the moment but early days. Probably needs to be handled more exactly to maximise her attributes. Moved steadily.
3.Reed & Pace. Dejare Daydream Believer
Post Graduate Bitch 21(2)
A fabulous class of some lovely bitches. The first three are all of superb quality.
1. Morris, Waddell & Donaldson. Crosscop Brown Eyed Girl. Brindle. Elegance personified, ultra feminine. Beautiful lean skull with neat ears and lovely typical expression. Long neck and clean shoulders. Needed to look beyond the stripes as front assembly is correct as is the hind. Wonderful body shape with all the curves in the right place, standing on decent feet with sufficient bone throughout.Tail well set and carried correctly. Handled to her best, moving out smoothly with a ground covering stride.
2. Wilson and Morgan. Shalfleet Amber Nectar at Meandi. Loved this brindle and white bitch and really had to split hairs when making my final decision. Of a different cast than one but of equal quality. Great head with the typical expression of her sex. Front angulation correct as was rear. Super for size, deep in brisket with top and underline as required. Coat and skin in excellent order. Fit and sound in movement .
3. Short. Collooney Truly Scrummy
Mid Limit Bitch 9(1)
1. Owen & Brodie Skomerfield Field of Gold To Wolfcastle. Brindle with white trim. I gave this girl the RCC while still a pup and today she went one step further to clinch the top award as a fully mature bitch. Classical construction and spot on for size, she excels in head and neck, with excellent shoulder lay. Being correctly angulated fore and aft, standing on good feet, with decent bone and spring of pastern, she moves out superbly covering the ground effortlessly. Curvaceous and feminine, she fills the eye and is truly representative of the standard and breed. She certainly has upheld my initial feelings for her as a youngster and has fulfilled all my expectations and beyond. BCC, BOS.
2.Turnbull. Turnstone Mamma Mia. I judged this bitch as a young pup and am thrilled with how she has developed. Such an elegant and balanced whippet. Presented in excellent condition with the best of coats. Beautiful head and typical expression. Neat ears and long, correctly arched neck. Body well constructed and so balanced. With good bone and standing on correct feet with pasterns lightly sprung. Moved out with seemingly little effort, fit for function, no question.
3. Bayley. Whisterfield As If by Magic JW ShCM
Limit Bitch 20(2) A fabulous class of really top class bitches.
1.Bray. Cyangrange Giocomo Delfino. This bitch ranks as one of my favourites in the ring at the moment. Beautiful head and elegant neck. Great overall structure and the very epitome of a well constructed whippet with no exaggerations but quality in abundance. Unnecessary to fault as her virtues are too many to list here. However, she does tend to go off the boil just when it matters the most and this her handler must compensate for when it comes to the final line up as she so deserves formal recognition of her attributes.
2.Richards Richclass Hayleys Girl. Another elegant and feminine bitch that has matured considerably since I last judged her. One of the most attractive heads of the day with excellent pigmentation and neat well set ears, correctly carried. She excels in front construction and lay of shoulder and has matured both in body and stance. Certainly earned her placing today on her performance, holding her own in this class. Top line has strengthened and hind angulation is unexaggerated. Moved well and with enthusiasm.
3.Gillespie. Penbrier Duchess
Open Bitch 12 (2) A wonderful class of some fabulous whippets.
1.Howgate & Hull. Palmik En Vogue. This bitch is still under two years old. In my opinion, she is almost impossible to fault, hence her heading this class of many of the top bitches from across the country. Of perfect size, a beautiful example of the breed, she fits the standard without any deviation, from point to point, head to tail. Feminine, balanced, a joy to go over, sound and athletic. A champion waiting in the wings, she will gain her title with ease.
2.Boughton-White Whiptails Happiness and Joy At Ipanema. Another beautiful bitch, fawn with white trim. So elegant and feminine and another one so worthy of past awards.Totally representative of a high quality example of the breed. Excelling in overall body shape and general construction. Not always wiling to give of her best, today she stayed focused and co operated with her handler to warrant this placing in such company. Moves so soundly and fluently, I am sure she will gain her title in the very near future.
3.Morris, Waddell & Donaldson. Ch Nothing Compares to You at Crosscop
Veteran Bitch 9(2) A lovely class of some very pleasing bitches all in excellent order and condition.
1.Whitehead, Smith and Mixides. Stormburst Winter Sparkles for Citycoft JW Sh CM. Beautiful brindle, carrying her years very lightly, holding her overall body shape and contours well, with only a greying muzzle giving a hint to her possible age. Lovely lean head and dark eyed. Elegant in shape and still curvaceous and shapely. Correct for size. Moved soundly and with enthusiasm. BVIS
2.Howgate & Hull. Ch Palmik Magical Whispers. Such a worthy champion and again carrying her years so well. Much has been written of her attributes and there is little that I could add to her long list of glowing tributes to her excellent construction and overall structure. Moving with that same easy free moving pace,as she did in her hey day, a great bitch.
3.Mulligans Willingwisp Royal Secret At Ashkyem

DOGS - Mrs Pat Dufty
My thanks to the Committee for inviting me to judge, and to the exhibitors for the entry. Also a big thank you to my two stewards who looked after the ring and me.
The quality of the dogs were very good, some classes I was spoilt for choice, one or two of the exhibits were not settled in the ring which was a shame as they were quality dogs.
I was looking for a curvy elegant whippet without exaggeration, a whippet who could work, with strong hindquarters, moving in a straight line, but also with good profile movement. All feet pointing forward, and in the dogs who won and were placed in the class I thought they all had these virtues.
I had one dog who smelt and I found this unacceptable, the rest of the exhibits had clean sparkling coats, but several dogs had dirty teeth.
